I don´t like personally the black ash finish of SVS so the Arendal would be lot better option for living room with a modern nordic decor. Again Arendal was praised by sound quality so they are certainly good option and i wouldn´t necessarily put too much weight on numbers alone. The 1961 1V was in group test and won PB2000 Pro, XTZ 1x12 Edge (700w) and about 5 others. The PB1000 Pro is indeed offering great bang for buck. However 1961 1S is quite beefy if you look the output at 20hz beating even almost twice costing SB3000 there and lot of owners have reported it is kicking hard also.īigger box may limit the positions in the small room and he listening moderate levels so the dual 1961 1S or dual SB2000 Pro should be fine. Keep in mind Arendal guys sold SVS and Ken Kreisel for years, they know them inside out and the aim was to beat them in sound quality, dynamics, build quality etc. There will be explanation in the 1723 2V review/measurements which is coming for Audioholics within few weeks regarding how James have measured it. a PB-1000 Pro has more output than a SB-2000 in the lower frequency range - would this squeeze into your space?

As it's mainly for movies these could offer an output advantage. You didn't say whether you'd consider a ported sub or not.

You would need a measurement microphone (£110) for this to use with REW software (free) to make full use of them though. If it's Option #2, then SVS subs have an advantage of having three on-board PEQ filters that are adjustable via an App and can be used to really help tune the subs. If it's options #1 or #3 you won't benefit from having any EQ features on the subs. Take some measurements and tweak things manually on the sub (in addition to Audyssey)ģ.

Just use Audyssey's Sub-EQ auto calibration featureĢ. How you intend to EQ the subs may also affect your decision. If possible, I would always choose a sub that can reach at least 20Hz, being the lowest point of human hearing. Personally I would discount the Focal as it’s output is only rated down to 24Hz. Your priorities should therefore be low frequency extension and getting an even bass response across the frequencies at your listening seat. The combination of a small room and needing relatively low volumes means you shouldn’t need a huge amount of power although more power does normally mean more punch.
